Colorado Snowsports Museum

On the 28th of September, on the way to support a friend’s wedding in Aspen, Colorado, I visited the Colorado Snowsports Museum in Vail. This trip was an unexpected manifestation of a childhood skier’s dream to visit Colorado’s mountains (from around the mid 90’s). What I didn’t know then, was that the delayed manifestation of the dream was perfect to allow me to appreciate this trip in ways I never would have guessed. I never would have known that I would have in common a practice done before the Army and still continue to practice that discipline after. A majority of the 10th Mountain folks were skiers before enlisting and continued skiing after and, likewise, I played and continue to play trumpet. I didn’t know very much about the 10th Mountain Ski Troopers until being stationed in Colorado (at Fort Carson from 2011-2012). The more I researched their legacy the more inspiration I found.

The visit gives me inspiration for working on my Taps Project when I attend the Interdisciplinary Arts program at Sierra Nevada College next year.
